Time in Obidos

A few weeks ago we spent time in Obidos Portugal. That continent is filled with beautiful places, but every once in a while you stumble into a spot which transcends. Obidos is one of them.

A tiny walled city.  A small thing- in Obidos they traditionally trim most of the buildings with a stripe of color, either yellow, red or blue. It's practical with all whitewash architecture to paint a darker strip at ground level to hide staining.

Ginja - Obidos does it best. Without question.
One of the best suites, and private patios, one could ask for.
The only downside to castle walled rooms... cell reception requires a stint at the window. Conversation benches have a dual purpose in the 21st century.
While in town we experienced quite a bit of serendipity. Among other things, we met  (according to her owner... and I believe her) Portugal's only documented Chesapeake Bay Retriever. A beautiful little sedge girl. This girl is as Chessie as she could be. She is a working dog who retrieves on private land around Obidos. We walked by one night, and I whispered something like "that looks like a Chessie," and they overheard me, her mother was surprised that someone recognized the breed, and we had a chance to talk and play with this sweet girl (we really missed our dogs at this point). Possibly Portugal's only chessie. We were honored to meet her.

If you think you live with some narrow streets... just remember it's better than weaving mini-station wagons through castles. We loved this Peugeot 206, but it was about 6" too wide to take gates like this at speed, either that or my thread-the-needle driving is not up to par... probably the latter.
